Yankuba Minteh’s agent confirms major transfer interest as Newcastle sent painful £69m reminder

Newcastle United are living to regret their decision to sell Yankuba Minteh to Brighton in 2024.

This season, much of the focus on players that Newcastle United regret selling has been on Elliot Anderson amid his march to what looks like a place in England’s World Cup squad.

Still, Anderson isn’t the only exciting young player who Newcastle cashed in on back in 2024.

Which player do you regret selling more – Elliot Anderson or Yankuba Minteh?

Thanks, PSR 😡

Yes, the club can clearly point to the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules as the reason they sold them, but it was still an active decision to specifically choose those two players.

While Newcastle didn’t want to sell Minteh, it was still a choice they made. He is believed to have been sold for around £32million.

Minteh has since impressed at Brighton and, according to his agent, he could be in demand next summer.

Yankuba Minteh’s agent confirms transfer interest in him

Agent Bakary Bojang has been speaking to Footy Africa.

Bojang confirmed that there were some top clubs interested in the 21-year-old, who has scored eight goals while registering nine assists in 55 appearances for the Seagulls.

While Bojang has stressed Minteh should remain focused on Brighton right now, he did admit that some top clubs were keen on his services.

“I know bigger clubs are interested and monitoring his development. I just need Yankuba to keep focus and deliver; everything will follow,” he said.

Hot take: I’m starting to think Newcastle United should sell Kieran Trippier in January – prove me wrong

Would be painful but need to cash in while we can! 👀

Plus, Lewis Miley has now become the Geordie Maldini 😂

When asked about a potential price tag, the agent added: “From my perspective, it’s always difficult to determine a player’s market value before a transfer actually happens.

“A player’s value is ultimately defined by what clubs are willing to pay. That said, it’s very positive to see that his statistical value is rising. This indicates strong numbers and consistent performances at a high level.”

When a valuation of around £69million was put to him, Bojang said: “Well, it’s difficult for me to say. Like I said, the value will be determined by what clubs are willing to pay.

“But I believe Brighton value him that high. So, if a club will buy him, they pay that amount or even more.”

How Yankuba Minteh compares to Newcastle United star Anthony Elanga

Brighton were surprised that Newcastle sold Minteh to them back in 2024, such was the level of excitement about the player.

Given Newcastle had struggled to sign a right winger until recently, watching the Gambian international play well on the south coast was all the more frustrating.

The player that Newcastle did eventually sign to fill the right wing slot – Anthony Elanga – has struggled.

While Minteh isn’t exactly enjoying the best of seasons himself (scoring just one goal and registering four assists in 18 club appearances), he has still been better than Elanga.

Minteh has scored more goals in fewer games, registering more assists and also beats Elanga in some key attacking metrics, which are listed above.

The decision to sell him looks as if it will get more painful with each passing season.
