Newcastle United are reportedly fans of Atalanta defender Giorgio Scalvini as they look to add more quality to their back-line ahead of a return to the Champions League.
The Magpies are expected to have a big summer transfer window, but fans are still waiting for deals to be agreed and for players to arrive on Tyneside.
Newcastle United will return to the Champions League next season, and it is clear that new faces are needed to improve their chances of being competitive in the competition. One position that Eddie Howe is eager to improve is centre-back. There is a lot of quality in that position already, but Howe will be well aware that the likes of Dan Burn and Fabian Schar are now approaching the end of their careers.
Marc Guehi is a top target for Newcastle despite recent interest from Liverpool. The 24-year-old is not interested in signing a new deal with Crystal Palace and is believed to be priced at around £40m this summer.
However, reports in Italy suggested that Newcastle are interested in Atalanta defender Giorgio Scalvini. Those reports have since been backed up by Luke Edwards, who claims that Scalvini to Newcastle is “one to watch”.
With another centre-back linked to the Magpies, Newcastle fans have shared their views on a possible move on social media.

Newcastle United fans excited by Giorgio Scalvini links
In 2024, Geordie Boot Boys revealed Newcastle’s interest in Scalvini. The 21-year-old has impressed in Italy and could be Howe’s next long-term right-sided centre-back.
One minor concern is his recent injury record, with the youngster suffering two serious injuries last season. Despite that, Newcastle remain one of the clubs keeping tabs on him.
On social media platform X, Newcastle fans cannot contain their excitement at the possibility of signing him.
“(Started tracking him) years ago. Guy is very talented. Would love him to come to Newcastle.” said one fan, while another added: “Certainly would come with a big reputation.”
This fan did not seem worried about his previous injuries, saying: “All I will say on the ACL is look at Tino!!”
“ACL injuries are not as serious as years ago; recovery time is quicker and players can still have successful careers after the advancement in sports science,” said this optimistic Newcastle fan.
Another fan added: “With all the injuries, it really does suit our buy in the dip favoured approach.”
Finally, this Newcastle United fan said: “The lad’s very good. I’ve seen him playing since he was 16 but he is rather injury prone.”

Giorgio Scalvini would benefit from Sandro Tonali at Newcastle United
Newcastle have kept their European targets under wraps so far this summer, but Scalvini looks to be one player who has slipped through the cracks.
The 21-year-old has already been capped eight times with the Italy national team since making his debut in 2022 under Roberto Mancini.
Should he sign, there is no doubt that Scalvini would benefit from Sandro Tonali’s presence at Newcastle. The midfielder joined the Magpies for £55m in 2023 and has gone on record to share how much he enjoys life on Tyneside and how happy he is to be playing for the club.
At such a young age, Scalvini needs someone he can look up to at Newcastle, and Tonali would be exactly that. A fellow Italian on Tyneside who he has played with before on the international stage, it is the perfect way to tempt him to join and help him settle.
Tonali would surely be happy to take the youngster under his wing to help him get to grips with life in a new country.
