Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to react after L’Equipe revealed that the Magpies are interested in signing Bayern Munich’s Michaël Cuisance.

The French news outlet reveal that Leeds are closing in on the signing of the midfielder, who made 15 appearances last season as Bayern Munich won the treble under Hansi Flick.

However, Flick is unable to guarantee Cuisance consistent game-time at the Allianz Arena this season, which has led to interest from the Magpies, Leeds, Marseille and OGC Nice.

The Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and Champions League winners have reportedly slapped a €20 million (£18 million) valuation on the former Borussia Monchengladbach man’s head.

At just 21 years of age, Cuisance has already been likened to Mesut Özil by the Bundesliga’s official website, who cite his wand of a left foot and bag of tricks as comparable attributes to the Arsenal playmaker.

It looks like Leeds are the frontrunners for his signature, but it’s encouraging to see us linked with a creative option to combat our lack of craft in midfield.

After all, we love a Frenchman at St James’ Park. The likes of Hatem Ben Arfa, Yohan Cabaye, Moussa Sissoko and Loic Remy have shone on Tyneside before, so let’s hope we can add another of France’s finest to our ranks.

Let’s see what the Toon Army on Twitter have been saying about our interest in Cuisance…
