Whether Arsenal will still sell Newcastle target Kieran Tierney after Timber’s injury

With Newcastle United looking to sign Kieran Tierney and Jurrien Timber suffering an injury, Arsenal’s defensive options could be taking a major hit.

Arsenal started the season with a 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest on Saturday, but the victory was blighted by the injury to summer signing Timber. He was forced off early in the second half, and it has been confirmed that the issue is his knee.

And while the Gunners wait to discover how long he will be out for, Newcastle appear to be stepping up their bid to sign Tierney.

Eddie Howe is keen to bring in a left-back, with the Magpies eyeing a potential loan deal for the Scotland international. It would include either an option or obligation to buy.

Whether or not that will appease Arsenal remains to be seen, but there were fears that Newcastle’s chances of signing Tierney would depend on how long Timber is out of action for.

If it is a lengthy injury, the theory goes that the Gunners would be reluctant to get rid. However, that is seemingly not the case.

Jurrien Timber injury will not impact Newcastle’s hopes of signing Kieran Tierney

According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal are now fearful that Timber is going to be out of action for months due to an ACL injury.

That would be a devastating blow for Mikel Arteta. However, it will seemingly not impact Newcastle’s chances of signing Tierney.

The Daily Mail add that despite Timber’s injury scare, Arsenal still expect to get rid of the 26-year-old, who is also a target for Aston Villa as well as Newcastle.

While it is never nice to see someone suffer an injury, from a Newcastle perspective it is good to know it is not going to hurt out interest in Tierney.

The left-back is someone who Howe has wanted for a while, and a late deal for the Scot could be on the cards.

Hopefully a deal can be agreed that suits both Newcastle and Arsenal, but it will have to be a loan. The Magpies seemingly do not have the funds to buy Tierney outright at this moment in time, which is why Toon officials are having to be creative when it comes to reinforcements.
