What Sean Longstaff’s camp are now saying about his Newcastle United future

It’s going to be fascinating to see what happens at Newcastle United next month.

Such are the PSR limitations in play at Newcastle, a reasonably quiet time of things in the January transfer window has been predicted.

Indeed, given the mood music around the club, it would now be a surprise to see Newcastle strengthen their squad significantly – albeit that is clearly not exactly impossible.

Still, money is said to be tight again, although perhaps there are ways of raising funds.

The prospect of selling players before buying again has been raised. That’s not to suggest any of the elite names will go as soon as January but perhaps other less fashionable names could depart.

One of those being tipped to leave at some point in 2025 is a certain Sean Longstaff.

Any money banked for the midfielder would count as “pure profit” given his status as an academy graduate, so it would certainly make financial sense to sell. That may be a rather heartless reading of the situation of course but is certainly something to consider.

Now, a fresh update has emerged.

The very latest on Sean Longstaff’s future at Newcastle

According to journalist Joel Bland on social media platform X, sources close to player stress Longstaff is not in fact in talks with any other club as things stand.

There is not thought to have been any formal interest in the midfielder at this stage.

Sean Longstaff open to shock move if he leaves Newcastle

Longstaff has previously been linked with other Premier League clubs, although perhaps he doesn’t necessarily see his future in England.

Earlier this month, The Chronicle suggested Longstaff could be tempted by a move to Major League Soccer (MLS). His brother Matty, of course, plays for Toronto FC.

If he does leave his boyhood club, Longstaff would do so with his head held high.
