Sean Longstaff appears to be closing in on an emotional move away from Newcastle United.
Longstaff is a product of the Newcastle United academy and has made 171 appearances for his boyhood club.
Still, Leeds have made an offer for Longstaff, who wants Newcastle to bank money for him while they still can. The 27-year-old is out of contract next summer, so there is very little time left to sell him.
Leaving Newcastle will be hard for Longstaff. He’s a fan of the club and was previously a key player under Eddie Howe, though lost his place last season following Sandro Tonali’s return from a ban.
His potential departure would also leave the Newcastle United squad short in midfield, though it seems the club already have something of a plan in place.

Newcastle United plan to replace Sean Longstaff
According to Mark Douglas of iNews on social media platform X, Newcastle do plan on replacing Longstaff should he leave.
It has previously been reported that Newcastle’s priorities are the signings of a new right-winger, a goalkeeper, a central defender and a striker.
However, they could also make an addition in midfield if Longstaff were to depart.
Newcastle United already have their Sean Longstaff replacement
It would be pleasing to see Newcastle sign a new midfielder this summer, although it’s not a huge priority unless Joe Willock leaves too.
Tonali, Joelinton and Bruno Guimaraes will almost certainly start when fit, making it hard for anyone to break into Newcastle’s starting lineup.
| Newcastle United statistics | Lewis Miley | Sean Longstaff |
| Games | 14 | 25 |
| Tackles/90 | 1 | 1.1 |
| Interceptions/90 | 0.1 | 0.3 |
| Key passes/90 | 0.1 | 0.2 |
Should Willock depart too, then the need for a replacement would become more pressing. Still, if it’s only Longstaff leaving, then Howe already has an internal solution in the form of Lewis Miley.
Newcastle are excited about Miley’s potential and will hope to use him more next season, with injuries impacting his development last time out.
