Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing Oleksandr Zinchenko in January.

The Northern Echo have claimed the Ukraine international is on the Magpies’ transfer radar.

Zinchenko has struggled for minutes at the Etihad Stadium so far this season.

He did struggle with an injury earlier in the campaign.

But he has been fit for weeks now, but he hasn’t got off the bench in any of the last five league games.

The form of Joao Cancelo is not helping his cause; the Portugal international has been one of the outstanding players in the Premier League so far this season.

Zinchenko may not be a regular for City, but he is definitely a top player who would get into many other starting lineups.

Pep Guardiola has previously sang the 24-year-old’s praises.

He said earlier this year (Goal): “Oleks [Zinchenko] fought a lot to be at Man City, a transfer was possible, he said ‘no I want to be here’.

“His quality with the ball is exceptional, we know it…”

Zinchenko’s national team manager Andriy Shevchenko is also a huge fan.

He said (via MEN): “Even in England, we have Zinchenko who plays for Manchester City. A great player who can play in different positions. A very intelligent player.”

Zinchenko would be a smashing addition for Eddie Howe at Newcastle

While defenders should be the priority, a move for Zinchenko would be fairly exciting.

Newcastle are set to change their style under Eddie Howe.

The new manager is someone that champions possession-based football, and good pressing.

Zinchenko currently plays for a team that does these things extremely well.

He would make for a really good signing, but it remains to be seen if City would let him go mid-season.
