Newcastle United are reported to be interested in Chelsea star Tammy Abraham.
According to a report from TEAMtalk, the 23-year-old is on the radar of the Magpies, as well as a few other Premier League clubs such as West Ham United, Southampton and Aston Villa.
Abraham is currently struggling for game time at Stamford Bridge.
Thomas Tuchel has used him very sparingly since taking over from Frank Lampard in January, preferring the likes of Timo Werner, Kai Havertz and Olivier Giroud up top.
Under the German, Abraham has managed just 126 minutes across five appearances so far.
He has had an injury, but he does seem quite far down the pecking order.
Newcastle’s reported interest is intriguing – Abraham could well do a job in a partnership with fellow England international Callum Wilson.
He does have the seal of approval from Alan Shearer, who said of Abraham back on MOTD back in November (via football.london): “I like him but I also think he has to go to the next level and to do that, that stat (only scoring four goals from crossed) has to improve.
“He is very good at finishing balls that come from midfield and in behind the defence. Where he can improve is when balls come into the box, he needs to have that intelligent movement where number nines score on a regular basis.
“I like him, he has great potential but where he has to go to the next level, the one thing he can improve on is that movement in the box and he can improve that. He just needs to work on it and improve.”
Abraham would be good Newcastle signing
By no means is Abraham – who supposedly earns around £80,000-a-week (Telegraph) a top-level Premier League striker just at this moment in time.
But he’s scored goals in the top-flight – 26 in 88 appearances to be precise – and is still years away from his peak.
Abraham can be a real handful.
Depending on price, it could be a great move from Newcastle.
