Watford have reportedly failed with a £15 million bid to sign Adam Armstrong, in news that will be of some interest to Newcastle United.
According to The Sun, the Hornets have seen their opening bid turned down, as they seek a new forward before the start of 2021/22.

Armstrong’s club Blackburn Rovers are said to be determined to hold out for £25 million.
That’s because they know there is a 40% sell-on clause negotiated by Newcastle on his next move.
Should Blackburn manage to find a buyer at that price, the Toon would be in line to receive £10 million.
It remains to be seen if Watford go anywhere near that asking price.

It is high, but it needs to be for Rovers given that clause Newcastle have.
This is an ideal time for them to sell, as Armstrong is now into the final year of his contract at Ewood Park.
If he not going to sign a new contract, and that seems very unlikely given how he is developing, Blackburn must strongly consider selling now.
Strong chance of windfall for Newcastle
£25 million is a lot of money for any side to pay for a Championship player.
That said, he did score 28 league goals last term – only Ivan Toney managed more.
If no one is willing to go near £25 million, there’s probably a good chance Blackburn will sell for less given his value will soon start to plummet.

Anything around the £20 million mark would be great news for Newcastle given the sell-on clause.
Hopefully, there will be some movement on Armstrong very soon, as the Magpies could do with the money as they seek their own summer signings.
