Newcastle United are among several high-profile clubs interested in signing 20-year-old France sensation Rayan Cherki from Lyon.
Rayan Cherki has caught the eye of many big clubs around Europe with his performances for Lyon and the France Under 21’s so it’s no surprise to have seen Newcastle‘s name in the mix with their focus on signing the hottest young talent.
Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea are among the other clubs who wanted the young midfielder, but according to L’equipe, Cherki will be staying put at Lyon for now.
Laurent Blanc is keen to keep hold of Cherki for another year
Cherki’s boss at Lyon, Laurent Blanc is a huge admirer of the academy graduate, hailing him as ‘very talented‘ and as such is keen to retain his services.
The young forward was a stand-out performer for France at the Under 21’s European Championships despite the team failing to live up to their promise.

With Cherki not moving this summer that can only be a good thing for Newcastle. It gives our scouts more time to monitor his progress and gives us another chance to swoop in the next transfer window if he continues to impress.
Newcastle could revisit their interest next summer if not January
Cherki has started both of Lyon’s games this season following on from making 34 Ligue 1 appearances last term where he scored four goals and provided six assists.

Comfortable playing on the wing, Cherki has been playing predominantly as an attacking midfielder and therefore could be the number 10 that we’ve been looking for.
This could be a one that Newcastle revisit next summer, if not in January depending on how the side is performing, but I’d love it if we could get this one done as he looks phenomenal already.
