Newcastle United target Cameron Carter-Vickers is said to be unlikely to move to Celtic.
According to Sky Sports via their live blog (31/8, 15.46), the USA international is wanted up at Parkhead.
But a loan deal would be difficult to do at this stage.
Apparently, Tottenham Hotspur would prefer to sell the 23-year-old.
Carter-Vickers have been at Spurs since 2009, joining from Catholic United at the age of 11.
He has been out on loan a number of times, his latest spell coming at Bournemouth last term.
There had been some talk that he could go back there for another spell.
Celtic are said to be keen, but it seems a move to the Scottish giants might not be in the offing.
That is potentially good news for Newcastle, who are also being linked with Carter-Vickers.
The central defender is of interest to the Magpies, it remains to be seen now if a deal can get done.
Potentially this is something that could go down to the wire.
Newcastle are also said to be keen on signing Hamza Choudhury on loan.
Newcastle have to elbow aside the competition
At this point, it’s just about getting people in.
Carter-Vickers would not be a popular choice with absolutely everybody. But he’s better than nothing.
With Spurs wanting a permanent deal, it might be a tricky one given Newcastle’s financial position.
But the club just need to get it done, if he is who they want.
The club have just announced the signing of Santiago Munoz, but not getting a central defender today really would be massively worrying.
