Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to react after the Magpies confirmed the arrival of Rodrigo Vilca from Deportivo Municipal on a four-year deal.
The 21-year-old scored twice in ten appearances in the Peruvian Primera División this season, and will go straight into the Under-23 setup at the Little Benton academy.
Newcastle state that the fee is undisclosed, although The Daily Mail have recently reported that the deal is worth £250,000 – a real bargain if Vilca can be anything close to a success at St James’ Park.

Despite his lack of experience, the attacking midfielder has already been called up to the Peru national team, where ex-Magpies hero Nolberto Solano works as a coach.
If Vilca can get anywhere near to matching Solano’s efforts on Tyneside, we’ll have a real player on our hands – the Peruvian cult hero amassed exactly 300 appearances for Newcastle during his playing days.
The young playmaker definitely sounds like he had his heart set on this deal.
He told Newcastle’s official site that he cried with emotion on several occasions, while also being very tense at times, but is now delighted that his move to the Premier League has been rubber-stamped.

Vilca said: ‘The process had a lot of phases, with all this Covid disaster, so it has been a rollercoaster of emotions. I have cried with emotion, not once but several times, because there have been different milestones.
‘At times I have been tense, but now I am very happy and I hope to have a long and successful time in Newcastle.’
