Newcastle United’s top transfer target this summer seems to be RB Leipzig’s Dominik Szoboszlai with the Hungarian admitting he’s open to a move.
While Dominik Szoboszlai has said he may leave RB Leipzig this summer, he certainly signed off in style scoring the second goal in a 2-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt in the German Cup final to secure Leipzig’s second consecutive cup win.
Despite Newcastle target Szoboszlai scoring the goal that killed off the game it was was Christopher Nkunku who is set to join Chelsea who stole the headlines scoring the first goal and assisting Szoboszlai.
Szoboszlai is ‘very open’ to a move to Newcastle
Reports were circling over the weekend that Szoboszlai was eyeing the Leipzig exit door amid strong interest from Newcastle. The Chronicle reported that the 22-year-old is ‘very open’ to a move to Newcastle and the Magpies could be set to activate his £60million release clause.
The midfielder ended the season with 10 goals and 13 assists in 46 appearances and has covered several positions across the midfield for the German side.

It’s clear to see why Newcastle have him as such a high priority
Looking at Szoboszlai’s stats on FBref there aren’t many weaknesses to his game – he’s not great in the air or bringing the ball forward. It also looks like he doesn’t get into the opposition box often, but when you look at his passing stats and his blocks and interceptions, you get more of a clear idea what he’s about.
Szoboszlai can break up the opposition attack then play the ball forward into a dangerous area to set up a counter-attack which is perfect for the way Eddie Howe has Newcastle playing.
The sooner we get this deal wrapped up the better. He looks like an absolute no-brainer of a signing.
