The laughable January targets have started with reported Papiss Cisse link

Before every transfer window, Newcastle are linked with an array of weird and wonderful players, the vast majority of which are nonsense, with today’s Papiss Cisse report up among them.

TEAMtalk claim the Magpies have been offered the chance to re-sign their former striker in January, with the player out of contract in the summer.

It is laughable to even think Newcastle would be interested in bringing the 34-year-old back, especially when you consider they refused to sanction a deal for Salomon Rondon due to his age, and he was just 29 at the time.

Granted Cisse knows how to find the net in the Premier League; yes, he is currently the top scorer in the Turkish league with nine goals; and of course he would be available for a small fee due to his contract situation.

But it is ludicrous to even contemplate this rumour having any influence with the Newcastle hierarchy.

The report claims the ex-Magpie would cost as little as £3 million, but even if there was any possibility of this happening, what would it say about Lee Charnley’s faith in his decision to sign Joelinton?

Of course, the report also says that Cisse’s agents are touting him around a number of Premier League sides, and Newcastle are just one of them, so it seems they are pushing their client towards an English return.

As reported links go, Cisse is one of the less believable

Links to players like Jarrod Bowen from Hull, or QPR’s Ryan Manning could be considered realistic targets due to their age fitting into the Mike Ashley transfer blueprint.

But a move for someone like Cisse is simply never going to happen, and, as a Newcastle fan, I find rumours like this a little insulting.

I suspect between now and Friday 31 January, we will see many more reports linking us to players from around the globe, but equally, I suspect that on Saturday 1 February, we will still have the squad we have now.
