‘Special’ forward now heading to PL rivals after rejecting Newcastle last summer

Last summer there was one name that dominated the Newcastle United headlines as the Magpies looked to have sewn up a deal for exciting French youngster Hugo Ekitike.

As we all know, the farce surrounding Hugo Ekitike and his advisers ended in the youngster rejecting Newcastle and joining Paris Saint-Germain instead.

A year on from that decision and it seems like PSG and Ekitike himself have regretted the move for the ‘special‘ striker pretty much since he signed. And now reports from RMC Sport in France, claim there’s once again interest from the Premier League.

Hugo Ekitike has having a solid pre-season but isn’t expected to be in PSG’s plans

Ekitike is having a very decent pre-season scoring a couple of goals and nabbing an assist, but he’s still not expected to be part of the PSG first-team come the start of the season.

Therefore several clubs are monitoring the situation, one of which is Nottingham Forest. Forest haven’t been shy in splashing the cash since they arrived in the Premier League and a move for someone like Ekitike isn’t as far-fetched as it sounds.

Despite making the best part of 30 new signings last season, they’ve shown no signs of slowing down. With Jesse Lingard and Jonjo Shelvey being two of the new additions that now need to be replaced, and Chris Wood with one foot out the door, there will be space for new players to come in.

PSG may even be open to a loan deal for Ekitike just to get him off the books for a year.

If Ekitike comes to the PL what will his reception be like at St James’ Park?

There’s also a suggestion that PSG may use Ekitike as part of a deal for Eintracht Frankfurt forward Randal Kolo Muani to bring the price down.

Whatever happens to Ekitike this summer it’s safe to say that he made the wrong decision last year. He could have become a legend at Newcastle. He had all the attributes to do so, but he went for the money (and in fairness, the club closer to home).

Now his reputation on Tyneside is tarnished and should he end up in the Premier League next season it will be very interesting to see the reception he gets if he runs out at St James’ Park.
