Some Tottenham fans want Joe Rodon to join Newcastle

Newcastle United have been linked with a loan move for Tottenham Hotspur defender Joe Rodon.

The Telegraph claim that the Magpies are leading the chase for the 24-year-old. The report adds Leeds, Watford and Brighton are also in the frame.

It’s obvious that Newcastle need centre-backs in January. Our current crop aren’t good enough, gifting goals at will to the opposition.

Eddie Howe needs to boost his defensive options next month, which is why his side have been linked with so many defenders ever since the takeover went through.

Established names such as James Tarkowski and Ben Mee have been mentioned. But Rodon is much less experienced.

The Welshman joined Spurs in the summer of 2020, but has only played 13 times in the Premier League. He’s only played once in the top flight this season, coming off the bench in their 3-0 defeat to Crystal Palace in September.

He’s barely featured since Antonio Conte replaced Nuno Espirito Santo, leading to talk of a temporary move away in January.

But is he what Newcastle need? His lack of Premier League minutes is concerning, while a loan move may only benefit Tottenham in the long run.

From a Toon perspective, it isn’t a deal that excites you. But what do Tottenham fans make of the rumours?

Well a selection of supporters want to see Rodon make the move to St James’ Park…but for different reasons.

Some see his potential and want him to get more first-team experience. He’d be doing a lot of defending at Newcastle, that’s for sure.

Meanwhile, other Tottenham fans want him to join Newcastle because he might end up signing permanently. And that could earn Spurs a big fee, given our newfound wealth following October’s Saudi-backed takeover.
