Former Newcastle United goalkeeper Shaka Hislop as urged Christian Pulisic to swap Chelsea for Newcastle this summer.

It looks like Christian Pulisic‘s Chelsea career is coming to an end with the London club seemingly willing to be set to accept bids of £20million for the USMNT captain.

Newcastle have long held an interest in the attacking midfielder and were heavily linked with a move for him last summer but ‘Captain America’ ended up staying put.

Despite racking up 30 appearances in all competitions for the Blues last season, it masks the reality that he barely featured. In those 30 outings he only managed 1012 minutes – just over 11 full games in total. In that time he only managed one goal and two assists.

Despite those poor stats, Shaka Hislop can see a future for Pulisic at Newcastle based on Eddie Howe‘s ability to rejuvenate players. Telling ESPN: “I think he’d get the management he needs at Newcastle United.

“Listen, if Newcastle come in for Christian Pulisic, if I have anything to do with advising him, I’m telling him take it. Let’s remember Christian Pulisic has struggled to establish himself in a team that just finished 12th in the league. And given his stop-start and inconsistencies in English football – even dating back to his latter [Borussia] Dortmund days – right now, to get a team finishing in the top-four, top-half of the Premier League, I can’t think of any other.

“The reason I say he’ll get the management he needs is because I look at what Eddie Howe has done with [Miguel] Almiron.

“If you look at the wide players at Newcastle, we’re talking [Joe] Willock or [Jacob] Murphy, Eddie Howe likes utilising that pace. I would have him. I think he fits how Eddie Howe likes to play. He does not bring the kind of ego and will allow himself to be coached, to learn under Eddie Howe. And just as Almiron did, I think he has a significant role to play.”

Eddie Howe could get the best out of Pulisic

Pulisic is only 24 so it could be argued that he’s not yet hit his peak which gives Eddie Howe plenty to work with.

At £20million it’s barely even a risk to take Pulisc given his potential. In fact, it’s not even potential, there have been plenty of times we have seen how talented he is, he just needs Eddie Howe to restore his confidence.

I’m with Shaka on this one, I think this is one that could work for both parties and hopefully it happens.
