There could well be movement on Sandro Tonali’s Newcastle United future relatively soon, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
Tonali has been linked with Manchester United, although the Old Trafford giants have since been tipped to move for other targets instead.
Who is YOUR choice to start up front vs Brighton and why? 🤔
Other reports have also suggested that Tonali would like to return to Italy this summer, although it’s hard to imagine many Serie A clubs being able to afford what Newcastle would want for the player.
His future, like so many others on Tyneside, remains unclear but Romano believes an update could come soon.
Tonali wants to stay in the Premier League, movements expected
On Wednesday, Romano – who invoked the ire of Newcastle supporters last summer during the Alexander Isak saga to say the least – posted an update on X.
He revealed that Tonali wasn’t planning on a return to Italian football. Rather, he’d be open to staying in the Premier League and test himself at the highest level.
Romano wrote: “Sandro Tonali, not planning to return to Italy this summer despite reports as he’s ready to stay in Premier League. Tonali is on top PL clubs shortlist and he’s keen on staying in England at the highest level. Movements soon about his future.”
Hard choice – but who are you selling if you were in charge? 🤔
Feel free to include anyone not pictured!
Quite what that means is unclear, although Arsenal and Manchester City have also previously been credited with an interest in the midfielder.
Clearly, there is no guarantee that Tonali leaves Newcastle this summer. Still, if the club really do need to sell players at the end of the season, then he would appear to be a prime candidate.
Watching Tonali play for another Premier League club would be painful, there’s little point in pretending otherwise.

Still, the former AC Milan midfielder – along with a few others – has hardly been at his very best this season.
Newcastle need to embrace the change that is seemingly coming their way. If that means cashing in on someone like Tonali, then so be it.
Generally, top Premier League clubs have more money to spend than most other European teams, so perhaps the pain of seeing him play for another English outfit could be more palatable if Newcastle receive a huge fee.
