Fresh comments from Newcastle United sporting director Ross Wilson have gone down a storm amongst supporters.

Indeed, Wilson is ready to revamp Newcastle’s scouting network as the club look to unearth hidden gems up and down the country.

Does Newcastle United’s recruitment structure need a revamp? The focus on Premier League experience is WILD

One of the major frustrations amongst supporters of late has been the fact that Newcastle focus on Premier League experience when looking at new signings

Buying from other Premier League teams can be expensive, such is the amount of money swirling around England’s elite division.

However, all the players who arrived during the 2025 summer transfer window who boasted Premier League experience have struggled for game time this season.

Buying from abroad can often be a much better way to go. Wilson appears to agree, much to the delight of Toon fans.

Ross Wilson says Newcastle United will look abroad for new signings and fans are delighted

Wilson had been speaking alongside CEO David Hopkinson about Newcastle’s next steps under PIF.

In quotes sourced by The Chronicle, the sporting director admits there is more value for money to be found outside of the Premier League.

“I think it’s also clear that we feel that it’s highly likely, not always, but highly likely that there’ll be more value outside of the Premier League than there is in it,” he said.

“It’s not always the case, but I think it would be a fair assumption to say that’s something we’ll be looking into.”

That has been celebrated by supporters on social media platform X.

“Fantastic news. The less business we do with our PL peers the better,” said one fan.

Another added: “Been saying that for the past 3 seasons when we’ve been focusing on overvalued Premier League players.

“About time! Terrific news. It’s just common sense, we have barely failed with any signing from abroad,” was another comment.

One supporter added: “There has always been better value abroad.”

“Good, seeing as most of our best signings have been from abroad and for a fraction of ridiculous PL prices,” claimed another.

Six Newcastle United signings that prove Ross Wilson’s theory right

Newcastle haven’t made many bad signings during the PIF era, but the absolute best have come from abroad.

In terms of value for money, the likes of Sven Botman, Alexander Isak, Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali, Malick Thiaw and Nick Woltemade have all increased their value since moving to English football.

There is a certain logic to wanting Premier League experience, but it’s not the absolute be all and end all.

Newcastle have already proven they can find value for money abroad. Now, they have to build on it going forward.
