Newcastle United are reportedly keen to sign Todd Cantwell.

According to a report from Eurosport, the Magpies are interested in snapping up the 24-year-old if they retain their Premier League status for 2021/22.

Cantwell has been in fine form once again for Norwich City this season, following the club’s relegation from the English top-flight last year.

He has four goals and four assists in the Championship, which follows six goals and two assists in the Premier League in 2019/20.

Cantwell remaining at Norwich beyond last summer’s transfer window surprised a few people.

It was felt that he and the likes of Emi Buendia and Teemu Pukki would all depart after catching the eye.

But the transfer speculation is picking up again now, and Newcastle are said to be keen.

Interestingly, Cantwell has already shown the Magpies first-hand what he’s all about.

The midfielder put on a superb display in the game between the two sides at Carrow Road back in August 2019.

Norwich ran out 3-1 winners that day, with Pukki hitting a hat-trick and Cantwell assisting two of them, with a lot of people taking note of his elegance and vision.

He completed 41/48 (85%) passes that day (via Sofascore) and was slightly unfortunate not to score himself.

If Newcastle do somehow survive relegation, Cantwell really would be a great signing.

He’ll only have a year remaining on his contract this summer barring no extension arrives in the coming months, which should absolutely encourage Newcastle to get involved.
