Newcastle look set to miss out on Torino midfielder Soualiho Meite, who is said to be closing in on a move to AC Milan.
Gianluca Di Marzio has reported the 26-year-old is primed to become a Rossoneri player with the two clubs negotiating the final details of a transfer.
A deal, he says, could be completed today.
It’s explained Milan will pay €500,000/£443,000 for a loan move for Meite until the end of the season, and they’ll have the chance to turn it permanent for €10 million/£8.8 million all in.
The development comes after Milan News 24 had reported that the Magpies were battling the Italian giants for Meite.
But it seems the Premier League side will miss out on the French dynamo, with Serie A leaders Milan currently an attractive proposition for players.
They have underachieved for years, but Milan appear to be back on track at the moment and their league position undoubtedly strengthens their lure.
Newcastle must look elsewhere
It seems Meite is all set for Milan, and in all honesty, who could blame him.
Milan are in a great place right now, and players would much sooner fight for a title than try to avoid relegation with Newcastle.
It’s a blow, with Meite a really solid central midfielder, who was described by club president Urbano Cairo at the time of his signing as having ‘excellent technique’ (Torino official).
The Magpies are in huge need of a new driving force in midfield and must keep working away to try and find someone who can bring that kind of quality, with just over two weeks remaining in the January transfer window.
