Newcastle United have reportedly reignited their previous interest in Sampdoria defender Omar Colley.
According to Primo Canale and TMW, the Magpies are looking to make a late move for the Gambia international in a bid to re-solidify their backline.
Of late, Newcastle’s defence has been leaking goals and Steve Bruce has always prided himself on the art of being hard to beat.
Primo Canale state that the club have come forward for the 28-year-old defender again after being linked last September (Corriere dello Sport), but add that there is also competition from Fenerbahce, who wanted to sign Sokratis Papastathopoulos from Arsenal.
The outlet does not make clear what the nature of Newcastle’s approach is, although a lot of the talk throughout the window regarding the Magpies has been about loan deals.
Sampdoria would apparently be open to selling if they feel the offer is right, so a loan with option-to-buy could well be on the cards.
Colley has been with Sampdoria since the summer of 2018 when he joined from Genk.
The player signed a new contract earlier this month.

There has been a real lack of presence at the back for Newcastle this season.
Ciaran Clark is probably the only player who can lay claim to having a decent season, and there needs to better quality in order to provide the team with a solid foundation again.
Colley – whom Corriere dello Sport reported to be valued at £14 million by his club – stands at 6ft 3in tall and is an imposing player who relishes aerial battles.
The star can bring that steel that has been sorely lacking, and hopefully he is one player Bruce might have been referring to when he said there were one of two things bubbling away.
