According to Alfredo Pedulla, Newcastle have shown concrete interest in Juventus’ Daniele Rugani.
The report states that an offer could be made between Wednesday night and Thursday, and that any potential proposal will include an option-to-buy.
Alfredo Pedulla also states that West Ham, Valencia and Rennes are in the running for the Italian’s signature, but Juventus’ conditions must change for the Spanish side to get involved in proceedings.
Rugani is yet to make an appearance in Serie A this season as his future with the Italian giants remain uncertain.
However, the 26-year-old is quite clearly not short of potential suitors.
The centre-back is a player of some pedigree and once looked set for the very top.
While on loan at Maurizio Sarri’s Empoli, he absolutely shone and drew praise from the ex-Chelsea and Napoli boss for his mentality.
As quoted by Corriere dello Sport in 2015 (via Gianluca Di Marzio), Sarri said: ‘Rugani is ready for any European club. He is strong from all points of view, has outstanding mentality, and possesses incredible desire to improve.’
If Rugani does arrive on Tyneside, Steve Bruce will finally have strengthened a position he has seemed desperate to bolster in this window.
The Telegraph state that enquiries have been made for Manchester United duo Phil Jones and Chris Smalling, while attempts were made to sign Rob Holding from Arsenal until Mikel Arteta changed his mind.
