Newcastle United will reportedly hear offers for striker Dwight Gayle.
The 31-year-old is thought to have had his contract extended recently, but The Athletic claim the club will offload if the right offer comes in.

Gayle has endured another season of frustration at St. James’ Park.
The star made 20 appearances across all competitions, equating to just 543 minutes of time on the pitch (via Transfermarkt).
That works out at 27 minutes per appearance.

Despite Steve Bruce being known as a big fan of Gayle, the attacker completed 90 minutes just once in 2020/21.
Despite his lack of game time, Newcastle did move to extend his contract (The Athletic), although there was never an official announcement from the club.
Have Newcastle merely protect Gayle’s value?
One wonders if that recent contract extension decision was simply to ensure that they wouldn’t lose the player on a free.

If that was the case, then that is a pleasant surprise.
Not that £40,000-a-week star Gayle (Spotrac) will fetch too much money, but at least if he does go it will be a bit more money to put into the transfer kitty.
Really it probably is time for Gayle to depart to make way for an upgrade.
