Newcastle United are among several clubs in the race to sign highly-rated MK Dons starlet Matthew Sorinola, according to TEAMtalk.

The left-back has made quite an impression at Stadium MK this season, breaking into the first-team and playing 17 times for the club.

Newcastle will face fierce competition for the defender though. Leeds, West Ham, Burnley, Crystal Palace, Brentford, Bournemouth and Middlesbrough are all keen.

Sorinola spent some time on loan with Beaconsfield Town earlier this year but is now establishing himself at MK Dons.

Boss Russell Martin has placed his faith in the teenager and his decision has been more than justified.

Newcastle will probably have a bit of money to play with in January and Sorinola does look like the sort of player the Magpies would target.

At 19 he has his whole future ahead of him and coming from League One he would be relatively cheap and boast significant sell-on value.

Jamal Lewis has been the primary left-back this season, arriving from Norwich City during the summer transfer window.

A left-sided defender will perhaps be on the shortlist of targets for Bruce, however.

Could Sorinola be a shrewd piece of business?

In short, yes, he could be.

The MK Dons man wouldn’t cost a fortune and he’d have plenty of years learning from a talent like Lewis.

Paul Dummett is a rarely-seen member of the Newcastle squad these days and his time at the club could be coming to an end.

With that in mind, a left-sided full-back could be an option for the club in the near future.

Sorinola only has 20 senior appearances in the professional game to his name and he wouldn’t be a signing to make an immediate impact.

He’d be a class addition for the future though and Newcastle should look to beat off the stiff competition.
