Newcastle are ready to jump at the front of the queue to sign Fiorentina star Dusan Vlahovic, according to The Sun. Tottenham, Liverpool and Manchester City have all been linked previously.

The Serie A talisman is set to become a wanted man. He scored 21 goals last season and already has six in eight appearances during the 2021/22 campaign.

Vlahovic will be out of contract in 2023 and there is some pressure on Fiorentina to sell him. It is thought that the player is valued at £50 million by his current club.

The 21-year-old signed for Fiorentina in 2018 from Partizan Belgrade. Interestingly he only scored three goals in 27 outings for the Serbian giants, yet earned a move to Italy.

He’s grown as a player during his time at Fiorentina, finding his shooting boots over the last 12 months. Vlahovic has 35 goals in 92 appearances for the Seria A outfit.

Keeping much longer won’t be an option though. Given the quality of teams after him, signing a new deal with Fiorentina doesn’t seem like a viable outcome regarding his future.

Newcastle are thought to now be in the race and their wealth could throw them straight into pole position. January will probably be the time when they start trying to add to the squad and players like Vlahovic would be welcomed.

Future star: Vlahovic could be quality at Newcastle

The Magpies have Callum Wilson spearheading their attack at the moment but Vlahovic could become a Newcastle regular for years to come if the club can pick him up.

Vlahovic is a superb striker and he’s also scored six times in 12 games for his country too. He comes alive in the penalty area and is capable of scoring different types of goals.

At £50 million he wouldn’t represent a bad investment for the future. Right now, he only collects £28,000-a-week and surely PIF would be offering a more substantial contract.

This looks like an exciting link for Newcastle fans to deal with. The challenge will be to convince Vlahovic, amid a plethora of bigger clubs trying to land his services.
