The transfer window may have closed, but the rumours don’t stop for Newcastle.
According to the Sun, the Magpies are interested in a summer move for Brentford star Said Benrahma, with Leicester also interested.
The report claims the pair are willing to pay £15million for the 24-year-old, who has been dubbed the ‘Algerian Messi’ by Brentford fans.
The winger has lit up the Championship since arriving at Griffin Park in 2018, and has played a key role in the Bees’ promotion charge this season.
Benrahma has scored eight goals and provided five assists, as well as dazzling fans with his incredible footwork.
He’s an Algerian international, and plays in a similar way to his fellow countryman Riyad Mahrez.
If Newcastle can tempt Benrahma to St James’ Park, he’d be an excellent signing. However, there are a few issues.
Firstly, Leicester could be in a position where they could offer him Champions League football next season.
Secondly, Benrahma might be a Premier League player already if Brentford secure promotion. They are currently fifth in the table, six points off West Brom in first.
Those are just two reasons that could make this deal unlikely. But the thought of having Benrahma and Allan Saint-Maximin in the same team is certainly an exciting prospect.
