Reported Newcastle United target Billy Gilmour is apparently keen to head out on loan for the 2021/22 season.
The Sun have claimed the young midfielder is ready to consider his options.
Scotland international Gilmour made just five appearance for the Blues following the arrival of Thomas Tuchel as head coach in January.
That’s understandable given Gilmour’s age and the competition for midfield places.
The 19-year-old was apparently blocked from leaving the club on loan by Tuchel on his arrival.
But the player is now said to be pondering the next step for his career. He apparently sees teammate Mason Mount’s rise as an inspiration.
Mount had loan spells with Vitesse and Derby County. He is now one of Chelsea’s key players.
The news is therefore a potential boost for Newcastle, with the Northern Echo recently reporting Gilmour is on the club’s radar.
Newcastle have to get in there early
If it’s true Gilmour is keen to head out on loan, then surely discussions between him and Chelsea will be taking place.
If it’s decided he can leave, then the Magpies must get to the front of the queue – and it’s highly likely there will be one.
Gilmour is a huge talent who would improve a lot of Premier League teams.
Newcastle could be a good sell to the player, with Joe Willock having flourished on loan last season of course.
