Newcastle United were one of several clubs watching the game between Porto and Lazio in midweek, according to A Bola.

The two sides faced off in the Europa League at Porto’s ground the Estadio do Dragao.

The game finished 2-1 to the hosts, with Toni Martinez hitting a brace after Mattia Zaccagni had opened the scoring.

There may now be no immediate opportunity to bring new players into the club, but clearly Newcastle already have one eye on the summer window.

Of course, retaining their Premier League status will be hugely significant for the kind of player they’ll be able to attract.

It will be interesting see if the Magpies make a swoop for any of the players that were involved in the match between Porto and Lazio.

The Express have suggested left-back Zaidu Sanusi might have been someone the club were watching, having been linked in recent days.

Supposedly Newcastle are on the 24-year-old Nigeria international’s tail.

Left-back is an area that will need attending to in the summer.

Matt Targett has made a solid start to life at St. James’ Park after moving to the club on loan from Aston Villa.

The club will want to sign him permanently if he sustains this level until the end of the season. But Eddie Howe will need another addition for that position to upgrade on Matt Ritchie, Jamal Lewis and Paul Dummett.

Zaidu Sanusi would be a good addition by Newcastle this summer

Sanusi could potentially make for a good signing by Newcastle this summer.

He is the second-highest rated Porto defender on WhoScored’s rankings.

Ritchie is probably going to move on, and Lewis was obviously left out of Newcastle’s update Premier League squad after January.

Bringing in the athletic Sanusi would definitely shake things up.
