Newcastle United are reportedly ready to release midfielder Henri Saivet, after including Christian Atsu in their updated 25-man Premier League squad.
The Magpies opted to bring the Ghana international back into the picture, after full-back DeAndre Yedlin departed for Galatasaray, freeing up a space.
According to GhanaWeb, the club are now looking to terminate Saivet’s contract as they just did with Achraf Lazaar.
The 30-year-old is pretty much a forgotten man at St. James’ Park these days, and has not made a first-team appearance in over three years.
Signed on the watch of Steve McClaren in 2016, he’s made just eight appearances for the club and has had loan spells with Saint-Etienne, Sivasspor and Bursaspor.
The star’s contract is expiring this summer, but him missing out on Newcastle’s update Premier League squad means he won’t be adding to his eight appearances – hence the seeking of an early contract termination.
Another product of awful recruitment
Many terrible signings have been made by Newcastle down the years, and Saivet is right up there with the very worst and most pointless.
That Saivet has reportedly been taking home around £35,000-a-week (Spotrac) is madness considering how little he has played.
An extension for the player is out of the question and hopefully there will be no more Saivet-esque transfers taking place in the future – although under the current leadership many Newcastle fans will not hold their breath.
