Newcastle United are set to make a £52m bid to sign Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, according to TuttoMercatoWeb.

As per the report, the Magpies are ready to submit a huge offer to land the 27-year-old at St James’ Park.

This proposal would be made up of an initial £52m, followed by an £11m signing-on bonus for the player. He would also receive a £9m yearly salary.

Despite this, it is expected that Lazio will reject the offer.

The midfielder is out of contract in the summer of 2024, so it may be the time for the Serie A club to cash-in on their star man.

Newcastle ready to sign Milinkovic-Savic

Thus far this season, the Serbia international has played 22 matches for Lazio. Of these, 16 have come in the Serie A, during which he has bagged three goals and seven assists from the middle of the park.

As per WhoScored, Milinkovic-Savic has been ranked as the side’s best player this season. Having received three Man of the Match awards, the midfielder has averaged 1.7 tackles, 1.4 clearances and 0.9 interceptions per game. Going the other way, he has averaged 1.6 shots and 1.3 key passes per match.

According to teammate Circo Immobile (via Fabrizio Romano), “Sergej Milinković-Savić is magic. He’s on the same level of Kevin De Bruyne”.

If he can play anything like the Belgian can in the Premier League, then it’s easy to see why Newcastle want him on Tyneside so badly.

The club certainly have the finances to do a deal, and with his current contract dwindling, Lazio could be forced to sell the player.

Therefore, this is certainly one to watch out for this month.
