Newcastle United have joined Aston Villa in the race to sign Real Betis attacker Luiz Henrique, according to ABC de Sevilla.
As per the report, the 22-year-old and his Betis teammate, Luiz Felipe, are receiving interest from the Premier League.
The Spanish outlet then go on to name the Magpies and the Villains as suitors for Henrique.
They claim both clubs have approached the winger over a potential move this week.
The Brazilian reportedly has a £88m release clause included in his contract, which runs until 2028.
As a result, it is believed only offers above £44m will make the La Liga club consider their options.
Newcastle want to sign Henrique
Having only joined Betis last summer in a deal worth an initial £6m, Henrique has made an instant impression in La Liga.
The youngster has played 24 times for the club this term, during which he has bagged three goals and five assists. Impressively, four of these contributions came in the Europa League.
Hailed by The Athletic pundit Jack Collins as a ‘sublime’ player who has ‘all the talent in the world, Henrique has certainly burst onto the European football scene this season.
Unai Emery is very well versed with Spanish football, so the fact he is desperate the land the youngster at Villa Park suggests the level of his quality.
Newcastle remain keen to bring in an additional attacker this month.
With Leicester City’s James Maddison looking reasonably unlikely at the moment, the Betis star could be a brilliant alternative. However, having played for his new club for just six months, this is an unlikely proposition.
