Newcastle United managed to get one singing over the line during the winter transfer window in the form of Joe Willock.

The midfielder signed on loan from Arsenal, and will be hoping for regular minutes at St. James’ Park.

The youngster has a point to prove having falled beind the likes of Dani Ceballos, Willian and Emile Smith Rowe back at the Emirates Stadium.

Newcastle fans were glad to see at least one new face through the door, but some felt more could have been done by the club.

According to The Athletic, a number of enquiries were made by the Magpies, including over Aston Villa midfielder Marvelous Nakamba.

The Zimbabwe international has made just nine appearances in all competitions so far this season, including just two Premier League starts.

It is not stated whether Newcastle actually put forth a loan offer for Nakamba, just that there was an enquiry.

The 27-year-old has been with Villa since the summer of 2019, joining from Club Brugge.

The impressive form of Douglas Luiz and John McGinn has seen him struggle for minutes at Villa Park, especially this term.

Nakamba would have been decent addition

Nakamba would have been a nice addition for Newcastle, along with the more attack-minded Willock.

The £11 million star (Sky Sports) is a bit unfortunate to play as little as he does at Villa Park.

He’s stepped up to the plate when called upon this season, but McGinn and Luiz are obviously two top players, and then there is talisman Jack Grealish and the in-form Ross Barkley also in there for competition.

It will be up to the likes of Isaac Hayden and Jonjo Shelvey to show Newcastle never needed the enforcer.
