Thorgan Hazard is on Newcastle United’s list of potential signings according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Borussia Dortmund attacker was linked with the Magpies earlier this week, with Bild claiming he’s a target for Eddie Howe.
Transfer expert Romano has now backed up the German outlet’s claim, and provided some more information on Newcastle’s pursuit of Hazard.
Newcastle’s attempt to sign Thorgan Hazard is not ‘advanced’

While the Magpies do appear to be interested in Eden Hazard’s little brother, a move to the North East is not on the horizon at this moment in time.
In an interview with Wett Freunde, Romano spoke about Newcastle’s pursuit of the 29-year-old.
“Thorgan Hazard is one of the options they have on their list,” he said.
“But so far it’s not a thing that’s going to happen anytime soon, nor is it far advanced. I’m sure Newcastle will take their time.”
Hazard could be a strong backup option
While talk of a move for Hazard is exciting, he probably isn’t the club’s first choice.
Newcastle are in the market for a wide midfielder, with Moussa Diaby heavily linked with a move to St James’ Park.
The Frenchman would be another game-changing signing, months after Newcastle caused a stir and landed Bruno Guimaraes from Lyon.
Diaby would be equally as exciting, but he is a very ambitious target. It’s been reported that he could cost a club record fee, while Watford’s Ismaila Sarr is an alternative option.
But if Newcastle find themselves still searching for a winger towards the end of the window then Hazard could be a great option.
His versatility is a huge asset, capable of playing on either flank. In fact, former Dortmund boss Marco Rose thinks he’s even more versatile than that.
“Toto is an excellent footballer who has good technique, who can go one-on-one, who has become more proficient defensively,” he said last year.
“He is a blessing for the coach. He’s very versatile. He can play at eight, he can play centre-forward, he can play at ten, he can play as a winger or a wing-back.”
Hazard is proven at the highest level, with years of experience in the Bundesliga and Champions League. He’s also played 45 times for Belgium.
At £13million, he could prove to be a bargain. That figure could be appealing if Diaby proves to be too expensive.
If the end of the window is edging nearer and Newcastle still need a winger, expect Hazard’s name to re-enter the conversation.
