Newcastle United are reportedly interested in a possible deal for Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Dion Sanderson.
According to a report from The Chronicle, the Magpies are keen on the 21-year-old having been scouting him in recent weeks.
Sanderson has been in very impressive form in 2021 on loan at Sunderland.
The versatile star has become a regular under Lee Johnson at the Stadium of Light, and his contributions have helped the club push for promotion back to the Championship.
Praise has been frequent for Sanderson, with ex-Black Cat Stephen Elliott recently branding him the best loan player he’s seen at the club since Jonny Evans.
Manager Johnson also called him a ‘Rolls-Royce’, indicating he plays the game in a classy way (Chronicle).
Newcastle would undoubtedly face competition for Sanderson if they went in for him, and the Daily Mail have already reported interest from the likes of Crystal Palace, Brighton and Sheffield United.
Sanderson would be a refreshing signing
Obviously there would be an element of risk attached to signing someone like Sanderson, who has no Premier League experience.
But it’s clear he has a big future and a high ceiling.
The Daily Mail’s ‘Secret Scout’ said in recent article that Sanderson is ‘very athletic’, and is ‘strong in the air’.
Newcastle landing him would also deal a major blow to Sunderland, who are reportedly desperate to keep him (Daily Mail), which would be an added incentive.
