Newcastle United are said to be interested in Montpellier striker Andy Delort.
According to Le Buteur, the Magpies are in the hunt for the 29-year-old, who is enjoying a really good season over in Ligue 1.
The Algeria international, who was part of the squad that won the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, has scored eight goals so far but has also demonstrated a creative side with six assists.
His partnership with Gaetan Laborde has gotten a few people talking, and currently only three teams have scored more than Montpellier (31) in the division.
It’s explained that Steve Bruce is impressed by Delort’s statistics and feels he could potentially provide a boost to his squad, which has left a lot to be desired in terms of creating chances and scoring goals this season.
Newcastle aren’t the only side in the mix – Le Buteur claim Wolves are also sniffing and have even lodged an offer.
Delort could shake things up
Delort scores goals and creates, suggesting him as being a decent addition for the Magpies who are crying out for someone with a spark.
Joelinton continues to underwhelm, while Dwight Gayle’s Premier League record is poor and his contract is expiring.
Andy Carroll isn’t prolific and is injury-prone, so there is definitely scope for Delort.
Realistically though, he is absolutely key for Montpellier who may be hoping for a Europa League push this term – Newcastle may just be wasting their time.
