Newcastle United are reportedly looking at Genoa defender Lukas Lerager ahead of tomorrow’s transfer deadline.

According to BT, the Magpies are preparing to make a bid for the 27-year-old Denmark international.

Lerager, who has 10 caps for his country, has made 19 appearances so far for his club this season, and has caught the eye..

But Newcastle potentially face competition for the player, with Gianluca Di Marzio claiming recently that Torino are keen.

It is explained though that Lerager would prefer a move to St. James’ Park, and ‘it will require an extremely attractive package’ for Torino to beat Newcastle to his signature.

There is also mention of interest from Copenhagen.

Prior to joining Genoa, Lerager has had spells with Zulte Waregem and Bordeaux.

He has a little under two-and-a-half years remaining on his current contract.

Lerager would be a risk

At the moment there is a real need for some creativity in midfield and statistics suggest Lerager wouldn’t really address that.

He hasn’t scored all season and has just one assist to his name so far in 2020/21 in the league.

Perhaps if this was in addition to a new creative midfielder it would be more worthwhile.
