Report: Newcastle have been making ‘regular checks’ on Djed Spence

Newcastle United are reported to have been making regular checks on Championship star Djed Spence.

TEAMtalk have claimed the Magpies are looking at the 20-year-old, who has been making tremendous progress in recent times at the Riverside Stadium.

The starlet was actually verge of leaving the club, before Jonathan Woodgate handed him his debut last season.

Spence has since gone on to nail down his place in the Boro starting XI, and has made 49 appearances for the club to date.

Newcastle aren’t the only side on Spence’s tail, TEAMtalk have stated that Everton, Wolves and Crystal Palace are also circling.

A new right-back is certainly something Newcastle need to be looking at, with DeAndre Yedlin’s future currently up in the air.

SBI Soccer recently reported that the USA international – out of contract at the end of the season – is considering an offer from an unnamed MLS side.

Manchester United youngster Brandon Williams has also been linked with a move to St. James’ Park this month.

Spence can breathe new life into right-back position

Spence is a really promising full-back, who manager Neil Warnock has said is capable of playing in the Premier League (Teesside Live).

In the eyes of his manager, Spence has ‘all the tools’ to play at the top level, it’s just about his application and dedication.

Yedlin may be doing quite well right now, but largely he’s been uninspiring at right-back during his time at the club, and Spence could be the injection of vitality that’s been needed for the position.
