Newcastle United are reportedly on the tail of Fenerbahce goalkeeper Altay Bayindir.
According to Takvim, the Magpies were scouting the 22-year-old in tonight’s game for the Turkish giants against Gaziantep, which finished 3-1 to Fener with Bayindir actually making an error leading to a goal from a free-kick.
Bayindir, who is knocking on the door to start for the Turkey national team, has enjoyed a good season in 2020/21 and has made 32 appearances across all competitions so far.
He personally has conceded 30 goals this term, and kept 10 clean sheets.
It appears Bayindir is something of a wanted man, with Takvim claiming Crystal Palace and Aston Villa scouts were also watching tonight’s Super Lig game, as well as people from Ajax, Napoli and Lazio.
His stock has seriously been rising in recent times, with Turkish-Football claiming in February that Tottenham Hotspur, Sheffield United and a handful of German clubs were keen.
The player is said to be rated at around £12 million.
Newcastle surely fine for goalkeepers?
Interest in Bayindir is a little strange.
At the moment, Newcastle have two great goalkeepers in Martin Dubravka and Karl Darlow.
It could be that Darlow pushes to leave this summer, but then there is youngster Freddie Woodman who has been playing really well on loan at Swansea City.
The Englishman could well be brought back as Dubravka’s understudy.
