Newcastle United have been credited with an interest in Kansas City star Johnny Russell.
According to The Sun, the Magpies are in the hunt to sign the 31-year-old, who is out of contract at the MLS club this summer.

Russell has been over in the States since January 2018, joining Kansas from Derby County.
To date, he’s clocked up over 100 appearances for the club, scoring 27 goals and making 24 assists.
He previously played for Dundee United, and has earned 14 caps for Scotland – his last coming in October 2019.

The Sun say he is being considered by Newcastle, who will operate on a tight budget once again this summer.
Also in the mix are relegated clubs Fulham and Sheffield United, who will need to rebuild.
It’s a hard one to get excited about
Newcastle reportedly being interested in Russell will probably go down like a lead balloon with the fans.

It once again suggests a lack of ambition.
Money might be tight, but surely there are better free agent opportunities out there than someone who’s been playing his football in the MLS for the past few years.
