Sarr is also on the radar of Nice, who are claimed to be willing to offer €12 million/£10 million for the Senegalese starlet.

He is being monitored by Chelsea and Everton.

The publication state that Sarr has impressed across his 20 appearances this season, showing ‘technical finesse’.

Newcastle are also eyeing Kouyate, who has ‘imposed his power’ across his 25 appearances in 2020/21.

Toon fans hoping the club might be able to sign one or both for a bargain fee may be disappointed, with Metz manager Frederic Antonetti insisting: “I am the one who sets the prices! And the sums required will be very, very high.

“Our workforce has great potential and we are not salespeople. Everyone knows me and knows that I will be uncompromising with regard to the work done by the whole club to advance the players.”

The right kind of targets

Sarr and Kouyate are the kind of players Newcastle should be going for.

Kouyate especially could be a decent addition, with the backline in need of an upgrade.

The star has international pedigree with Mali, and is only 24 meaning he has a decent amount of experience under his belt but is still years away from his peak.
