Newcastle United reportedly hold an interest in Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot, according to Calciomercato.
The Italian publication are claiming the Turin giants could sell as they are currently stacked with midfield options.
They signed Manuel Locatelli in the summer, and Max Allegri already has the likes of Rodrigo Bentancur, Weston McKennie, Aaron Ramsey and Arthur.
A classy player who’s lost his way
Rabiot is a graceful and elegant midfielder.
He is a technically sound player, capable of controlling games from deeper positions.
Calciomercato state that he has never truly convinced during his time with Juve.
They explain that Rabiot has the tools to excel, but he has struggled with injuries and consistency.
Allegri is apparently looking at players like Donny van de Beek and Aurelien Tchouameni in January, which suggests Rabiot is surplus to requirements.
How would Rabiot fit at Newcastle?
Rabiot is very useful from deep and possesses an excellent passing range.
But one of his most underrated qualities is his ability to carry the ball forwards.
He is one of those players that glides with the ball, and he is difficult to dispossess due to his great balance and 6ft 2in frame.
Ex-Juve boss Andrea Pirlo is a big fan of Rabiot’s playstyle, saying of him last November (via Goal): “He is a complete player, I have rarely seen someone so strong both physically and technically.”
A left-sided central midfield position would probably be most ideal. Holding, but with a license to surge.
Rating the rumour
This does not feel absolutely outlandish.
There is a lot of competition in midfield at Juve, and Rabiot has not really pulled up trees since his free transfer to the club back in 2019.
Calciomercato say Juve could sell if Allegri lands Tchouameni or van de Beek, and they also say Rabiot admires the Premier League.
Nothing has appeared in the British media yet though regarding Rabiot to Newcastle, but the story could have legs
