Newcastle United are taking a look at Everton’s Dylan Thompson via a trial.

The teenager started for the Magpies’ U23s against Wolverhampton Wanderers, which they lost 4-0.

Thompson has been with Everton since the age of 12, but could bring an end to his stint with the Toffees if all goes well. It’s claimed by the Chronicle that he is looking for a new club.

Newcastle are expected to move on several youngsters this summer, and are looking for new blood ahead of the 2021/22 season.

The club have already made a successful move for one talented young player in Matthew Bondswell, who joined last month after leaving RB Leipzig.

Thompson had made six appearances for Everton’s U18s this season, and also made one appearance for the U23s.

The Toffees have previously described him as ‘an assured, ball-playing defender’ (official website).

Thompson will hopefully impress

Newcastle could probably do with a new centre-half this summer, and so hopefully Thompson will use that as his motivation to impress.

Federico Fernandez is out of contract this summer, and Fabian Schar has not yet extended his deal at St. James’ Park.

Perhaps this could be a means of making up for allowing the departure of Lewis Gibson to the Toffees back in 2017.
