According to Tutto Mercato Web, Newcastle are keeping an eye on the situation regarding Sampdoria’s Omar Colley, who is also wanted by Fulham.
A separate report from SampNews24 states that Burnley, Southampton and Celtic are also interested in the centre-back, who was compared to world-class star Kalidou Koulibaly by Sampdoria’s president Massimo Ferrero.
SampNews24 quote the Italian as saying: ‘Why should I give him away? Do you know how much (Napoli owner) De Laurentiis is asking for the sale of Koulibaly?’
Colley has earned 12 caps for the Gambia national team, and has become a key player for the Serie A outfit since joining from Genk in 2018. His efforts quite clearly haven’t gone unnoticed, given the vast interest in his services.
If one thing is apparent from this transfer update along with others, it’s that Steve Bruce is desperate for a new centre-back.
The Magpies boss was keen to sign Arsenal’s Rob Holding, but a deal broke down after Mikel Arteta performed a U-turn over the ex-Bolton defender.
We’ve also been linked with a swoop for Juventus centre-back Daniele Rugani, while The Telegraph recently reported that Bruce has made enquiries over the availability of Manchester United’s Phil Jones and Chris Smalling.
With just days remaining until the October 5th deadline, it seems there are plenty of irons in the fire for Mike Ashley, Lee Charnley and Bruce.
