According to 90min, Newcastle are one of seven Premier League clubs interested in signing Cruz Azul attacker Orbelin Pineda. Arsenal, Tottenham, Everton, West Ham, Southampton and Wolves are also keen.
The Mexico international rejected the chance to sign for Manchester City in 2016, before completing a move to Cruz Azul from Guadalajara in a deal worth over £10 million.
Pineda is also of interest to Ajax, PSV Eindhoven, Porto and Monaco – 90min’s report say that a move to one of those four European outfits remains the most likely destination for the 24-year-old.
If Steve Bruce did manage to bring him to St James’ Park, it feels like the Magpies would be getting an exciting talent.
After all, Pineda must have something special if Manchester City tried to sign him as a 20-year-old.
90min’s report described the forward as someone who can drift past players using his low centre of gravity, which would provide excitement across Newcastle’s frontline seeing as Allan Saint-Maximin and Miguel Almiron can already do that.
There seems to be plenty of competition for the Magpies to fend off if they are to sign Pineda, although that can only emphasise how impressive his displays in Mexico have been in recent times.
