Talk of Ademola Lookman joining Newcastle has gone quiet, and now an alternative has been linked.
According to Portuguese outlet O Jogo, the Magpies are willing to pay £10 million for Braga winger Ricardo Horta.
The report mentions Newcastle’s interest in Lookman, but states that they will move towards Horta due to Leipzig’s refusal to let the Englishman go.
There was talk of the ex-Everton winger joining on loan with a view to a permanent move, but there doesn’t seem to have been any progress made in the past week.
So would Horta be a decent alternative? Well he’s in much better form than Lookman, considering he’s actually been playing for Braga.
The 25-year-old is enjoying an impressive season, and has actually already found the net against a Premier League team. Horta scored the winner against Wolves in the Europa League back in September. He’s also scored four times in the league, as well as providing three assists.
Horta mainly operates on the left flank, but is also capable of doing a job on the right. While he is versatile, his preference to play on the left could be an issue. We already have Miguel Almiron and Allan Saint-Maximin, two players who prefer to be on the left wing.
Will we be seeing Horta holding up a Newcastle scarf any time soon? I’m not convinced.
