Newcastle United are reportedly in the hunt to sign Bristol City striker Antoine Semenyo.
According to a report from TEAMtalk, the Magpies are one of several teams looking at the 21-year-old, who is said to have big potential.
Semenyo has scored five goals and laid on seven assists for teammates for far in 2020/21, and is a regular pick for manager Nigel Pearson and Stuart Holden before him.
Crystal Palace are said to be currently leading the charge for the Championship star.
It’s explained they see Semenyo – described in a recent Bristol Post article as being ‘often electric’ – as another Yannick Bolasie.
The DR Congo international was once one of the most exciting players to watch in the Premier League when he was at Selhurst Park.
Newcastle are interested but face huge competition; Brighton, Southampton, West Ham, Sheffield United, Norwich and Watford are all mentioned in the report.
Semenyo links won’t appease Toon faithful
Semenyo may have a lot of promise, but this is a transfer link that won’t excite the majority of Magpies supporters.
With Newcastle’s Premier League status under threat, links to Championship players do nothing but reinforce the suggestion that the club are preparing for life in the second tier.
