Former newcastle United defender Jetro Willems could leave Eintracht Frankfurt this weekend according to reports in Germany.
Kicker has claimed (via Fussball Transfers) the Dutch full-back could depart the Bundesliga outfit as soon as this weekend, with the player’s contract expiring in the summer meaning he could go for free.
Willems, of course, spent part of last term on loan at St. James’ Park, before injury ended his season early.
The star suffered an ACL injury against Chelsea in January, and could not feature for the Magpies again, forcing him to return to his parent club.
It was a huge shame for Willems, who had enjoyed a fantastic first half of the season at Newcastle.
The 26-year-old nailed down the left-back spot, and wowed fans with dynamic performances that showed him to be good at defending and supporting in the final third.
His brief stint at the club has seen many fans clamour for his return, and the Chronicle reported earlier this month that the club have been looking at a possible deal.
Newcastle did sign Jamal Lewis last summer, but the 22-year-old has not kicked on as anticipated, and some Newcastle fans have therefore demanded Willems returns to the club.
Newcastle have to act
Newcastle simply have to bring Willems back to St. James’ Park.
The 26-year-old was loved by supporters when he was on loan, and it is the kind of signing the fans need right now.
Optimism is on the floor at the moment, but the club can give supporters a reason to be positive if Willems is brought back in the next 10 days.
