Galatasaray are reportedly keen on signing Dwight Gayle this summer when his contract at Newcastle United expires.
The 30-year-old is set to become a free agent when the 2020/21 season concludes, and there hasn’t been any word about a potential extension at St. James’ Park.
Gayle has seen limited game time this season for the Magpies.
He has struggled with injury, but also played second fiddle to Callum Wilson, who was the club’s marquee signing last summer.
Speculation has been rife about Gayle’s future, with Crystal Palace having been linked with their former player (The Sun (10/1, page 53)
But now the Sunday Mirror (print, page 68) (via Shields Gazette) have claimed that Galatasaray want to snap up Gayle.
That would see the Englishman reunite with DeAndre Yedlin, who left Newcastle in January to join the Super Lig side.
So far it’s been going well for the USA international. Since his move he’s made six appearances for the giants and been on the winning side five times.
In addition to Gala, the Mirror claim there is interest in the player from teams from Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
Yedlin form could tempt Gayle
Gayle, who cost the Magpies £10 million back in 2016 (ESPN), extending his contract at Newcastle seems fairly unlikely at this point.
A move to Gala could well appeal to the player, who may wish for a fresh start after struggling to make an impact for the Magpies in the Premier League.
Yedlin appears to have started well with the giants and the American’s presence at the club could well act as a lure for the Walthamstow-born star.
