Everton attacker Anthony Gordon is back on Newcastle United’s radar this month, according to The Telegraph.
Chronicle Live claim the Magpies had a £35m bid rejected for the 21-year-old last summer.
Shortly after this, Chelsea reportedly launched a £60m move to land the youngster at Stamford Bridge, but the Toffees insisted he would remain at Goodison Park.
However, The Telegraph now report that Gordon is once again being eyed by Eddie Howe’s side.
Although the Blues were desperate to keep hold of the winger, it is thought they could be more receptive now, following the player’s disappointing run of form this term.
Newcastle now eyeing Gordon again
Although Newcastle have been keen to land a winger at St James’ Park since the summer, a reprised pursuit of Gordon doesn’t necessarily appear to be the solution.
Everton seemingly rejected a £60m bid (£50m plus £10m add-ons) from Chelsea less than six months ago.
The Magpies were not keen on going above the £35m mark – that being the figure they offered.
Now, although it is likely the 21-year-old’s price would have dropped somewhat after failing to impress for Frank Lampard’s side this season, the price-tag would probably remain above the Toon’s rejected offer.
With such hype surrounding the attacker over the summer, it would be odd for Newcastle to offer more money now, especially when the player hasn’t kicked on, like he was expected to.
Although he been hailed as ‘special’ by pundit Dean Ashton, there are better options out there for similar money. Therefore, the Toon should cut their losses and look elsewhere if they want to sign a winger this month.
